Example of Active Custom Folders

This example shows how to use Active custom folders to change the appearances for your model without reassigning appearances.

Create three folders named red, blue, and green. In each of these folders is an appearance named cover, switch, and buttons. The appearance properties of cover, switch, and buttons have been changed in each folder to display the model in red, blue, or green. Using Active custom folders, you can render your model in red, blue, or green by switching the active folder.

To switch appearances with the Active custom folders list:

  1. Assign appearances to your model in the folder named red. Be sure to click Link appearance in the Appearances PropertyManager, Color/Image tab. The appearance must be linked to a file so the software loads the appearance properties from the file.

  2. Render the model and notice it appears in red.

  3. Save the part.

  4. Click PhotoWorks, Options, File Locations.

  5. Under Active folders, click Add and browse to the folder named blue that contains appearance files (*.p2m) with the same name as the assigned appearances in the folder named red.

  6. Click Apply and click Yes to the message that appears to reload the model with the new appearances.

  7. Close the Options dialog box.

  8. Render the model and notice it appears in blue.
