Adding Fittings

You can add fittings, such as flanges, tees, elbows, and so on, to a route.

You can add a fitting at an endpoint, an intersection, or a point that you insert in the middle of a segment using Split Entities (Sketch toolbar).

  • If the fitting has a route point (RPoint), the RPoint is positioned at the selected vertex.

  • If there is no RPoint (for example, eccentric reducers have no RPoint), one of the connection points (CPoints) is positioned at the vertex.

When you drop the fitting in the assembly, the software extends the route sketch to continue the route. For elbows, the software adds an arc that follows the radius of the elbow and a line on the other end of the elbow. For tees and crosses, the software adds lines for each opening in the connector.

You can add back-to-back fittings. For example, you can attach an elbow to an elbow or a tee to a tee without a pipe or tube in between.

For pipe routes, if you select Always use elbow in the Route Properties PropertyManager when you start a route, elbows are added automatically at fillets in the 3D sketch.

To add a fitting manually (method 1):

  1. While editing the 3D sketch, drag a fitting from the Design Library folder and point to the location in the 3D sketch where you want to place the fitting.

  2. Before dropping the fitting:

    • Press Tab to view possible alignments of the fitting.

    • Hold down Shift and press the left and right arrow keys to view possible angular orientations of the fitting. (Specify the rotation increments in Routing Options by setting Component rotation increment (degrees).)

  3. When the alignment and orientation are correct, drop the fitting.

  4. Select the desired configuration.

By default, the list in the Select a Configuration dialog box includes only configurations with the correct diameter. To expand the list to include all the configurations in the part, select List all configurations.

  5. Click OK.

To add a fitting manually (method 2):

  1. While editing the 3D sketch, click Add Fitting (Routing Tools toolbar) or Routing, Routing Tools, Add Fitting.

  2. Select the fitting from the dialog box, then click Open.

    The pointer changes to .

  3. Align the fitting:

    1. Right-click to view the possible alignments of the fitting.

    2. When the alignment is correct, left-click.

  1. Select the desired configuration, and click OK.

To change the alignment of a fitting:

  1. Right-click the fitting and select Change Fitting Alignment.

  2. Right-click or press Tab to view the possible alignments of the fitting.

  3. When the alignment is correct, left-click or press Enter.

When fitting reducers to route segments, CPoint diameters must match.  Do not change the fitting alignment of a reducer unless the corresponding CPoint diameters are the same.

To control the angular orientation of a fitting:

  1. While editing the 3D sketch, sketch a construction line starting from a point in the 3D sketch.

  2. Add the fitting to the point in the 3D sketch using one of the previous methods.

The new fitting is aligned such that its Vertical axis is aligned with the construction line.

You can also rotate fittings as you place them in an assembly by holding down Shift and pressing the left and right arrow keys. Specify the rotation increments in Routing Options by setting Component rotation increment (degrees).

You can add fittings that are components of the main assembly to a route by right-clicking and selecting Add to Route. Use Add to Route only for end fittings, not for intermediate fittings.
