Global Variables

You can create global variables to use in equations. You define global variables in the Add Equation dialog box (example: Well_Volume = 20000). You can:

• Define global variables using other global variables, dimensions, and linked dimension names (example: Height = "Well_Volume"/(pi*("D1@Sketch4"/2)^2)).

• Drive dimensions using global variables (example: D1@Extrude1 = “Height”).

• Use a part’s global variables within an assembly.

Global variables and their current values appear:

• In the Equations dialog box.

• In the Equations folder in the FeatureManager design tree.

• Under Name in the Shared Values dialog box.

• Under Value / Text Expression on the Custom tab in the Summary Information dialog box.

• Under Value / Text Expression in the Weldment dialog box.

To create a global variable:

1. Click Equations on the Tools toolbar, or click Tools, Equations.
   
   The Equations dialog box appears. If any global variables already exist, the Equations folder in the FeatureManager design tree expands to show them.

2. In the dialog box, click Add.

3. Populate the equation box. See Entering Equations.

4. Click OK.
   
   The equation and value for the global variable appear in the Equations dialog box.

5. Click OK again.
   
   The global variable appears in the Equations folder in the FeatureManager design tree, where you can select it for use in other equations.
