TIFF, Photoshop, and JPEG Export Options

You can set the export options when you export SolidWorks documents as TIFF, Adobe® Photoshop®, or JPEG files.

To set the export options:

  1. Click File, Save As.

  2. Select Tif (*.tif), Adobe Photoshop Files (*.psd), or JPEG (*.jpg) for Save as type, then click Options.

  3. Select from the options described below, then click OK.

  4. Click Save to export the document.

Image type. Select:

  • Black & white (bilevel). Not useful for shaded images or with background color. For drawings with black lines and white background, this option produces the minimum sized file.

  • RGB full color.

  • Gray scale.

Tiff Compression scheme. Select the type supported by the target system:

  • Uncompressed.

  • Packbits. Results in the smallest color image.

  • Group 4 Fax. Results in the smallest file size of the three formats, but can only be used for a black and white image.

Remove background. TIFF exports of parts or assemblies. Makes the background transparent, effectively removing it before export. After export, use an image editor to insert a custom background.

Jpeg Compression. JPEG exports only. Adjust the slider to set the compression level. A lower compression setting results in higher quality.

Capture type. Select either Screen capture or Print capture.

  • Screen capture. Captures the image at the resolution of the screen display.

  • Print capture. Enables the Print capture options.

Drawing options. Drawings only.

  • All sheets (multipage).Enabled when drawing contains more than one sheet. Exports all sheets.

  • Current sheet. Exports current drawing sheet only.

  • Use sheet size(s). Enabled when Print capture is selected. Exports according to drawing sheet dimensions.

  • Use print size. Enabled when Print capture is selected. Enables Print capture options.

Print capture options.

Capture the image at a user-defined DPI (dots per inch) and Paper size. The drawing Width and Height information updates automatically. For drawings, select Scale to fit or set the scale in Scale.

Set Paper size to User defined to specify a custom Width and Height.

When you save a part or assembly, SolidWorks displays a blue and magenta rectangle representing the border of the image to export.

Note: Large images can take a long time to export.
