DXF/DWG File XREFs

If you import a DXF/DWG file that has XREFs, SolidWorks eDrawings tries to resolve the XREF in this order:

  1. AutoCAD installation folder

  2. Current folder

  3. Relative paths

  4. Paths specified under Tools, Options on the Import tab. You can specify the paths used to find referenced XREF, shape, or font files. You can specify multiple search paths and the order in which they are searched.

If the XREF cannot be resolved, the Resolve XRef dialog box appears. If you know where the XREF file is located, navigate to the file and click Open. Otherwise, click Skip file to import the DXF/DWG file without the XREF file.

To add XREF search paths:

  1. Click Tools, Options.

  2. On the Import tab, under DXF/DWG Import, edit the search paths for:

    • Xref folders.

    • Shape and font folders.

  1. To add a folder, click Add, browse to a folder, then click OK.

  2. These tools are available:

    • Remove.

    • Edit. Modify the search path.

    • Move up and Move down (multiple paths only). Changes the search order.
