Elliptical Arc
Use the ELLIPSE command to create an elliptical arc.
With the ELLIPSE command, you can draw a complete ellipse (see ELLIPSE) or an elliptical arc.
To draw an elliptical arc, you define the ellipse, then specify the
section to be the arc. Type ELLIPSE
on the command line. At the prompt, type Arc.
Then you have the following choices.
Rotation defines the major to
minor axis ratio by rotating a circle about the first axis. The higher
the value (0 to 89.4
degrees), the greater the ratio of minor to major axis. A ratio of 0 defines a circle.
Start angle: specifying a point
determines the start angle of the elliptical arc. Specifying a point for
the End angle completes the elliptical
arc.
Parameter requires the same
input as Start angle. The difference is that Parameter creates the elliptical
arc using the following equation:
p(u) = c + a* cos(u) + b* sin(u)
where c
is the center of the ellipse and a
and b are its major and minor
axes, respectively.
The Parameter option toggles
from Angle to Parameter
mode and the Angle option toggles
from Parameter to Angle
mode. The mode you are in determines how the SolidWorks software calculates
the ellipse.
Included defines an included
angle beginning at the start angle. Enter a point or an angle.
