Initial Conditions

The Initial Conditions PropertyManager applies initial displacements, velocities or accelerations for modal time history and nonlinear dynamic studies to entities at time 0.

Type

Sets the type and location of the initial condition.

  • Displacement

  • Velocity

  • Acceleration

  • Components, Bodies, Faces for Initial Condition . Select bodies or components to apply initial conditions. For shell and sheet metal bodies, you can also select faces.

  • BeamsPM_force_beams.gif. Available for studies with beams only. Select the beams to apply initial conditions.
  • Joints PM_force_joints.gif. Available for studies with beams only. Select the beam joints to apply initial conditions.
  • Face, Edge, Plane, Axis for Direction . Select an entity to define direction.

Displacement, Velocity, or Acceleration

Sets the units and values of the initial condition components.

  • Units . Sets the units.

  • If you select a planar face or a reference plane, you can specify initial conditions Along Plane Dir 1 ,Along Plane Dir 2 , or Normal to Plane .

  • If you select a cylindrical face or a reference axis, you can specify initial conditions in the Radial , Circumferential , or Axial directions.

  • If you select a straight edge, you can specify initial conditions along the edge .

Symbol Settings

Sets the color and size of the symbols.

  • Edit color. Click to select a color.

  • Symbol size. Sets the symbol size.

  • Show preview. Turns on/off the display of the initial condition symbols.
