Edge Weld Results PropertyManager

The Edge Weld Results PropertyManager lists the weld sizes and forces of all edge weld connectors in the active document.

To display this PropertyManager, run a static study with edge weld connectors. Right-click Results and click List Weld Results.

Selection

Unit Sets the unit system for the edge weld results.
Type   Selects the connector to list its results.
Results list the min, max, and mean values along the weld seam and they are given per unit weld length:
  • Weld Size
  • Weld Throat Size
  • Joint Normal Force
  • Shear-Weld Axis Force
  • Shear-Surface Normal Force
For thin shell formulation, no shear deformation is calculated for shells and the edge weld results show zero values for Shear-Surface Normal force. For thick shell formulation, the Shear-Surface Normal force is calculated.
  • Bending Moment
Only for edge welds sized with European Standards, the maximum stress values along the weld seam are reported under Stress Values at Critical Location:
  • Sigma perpendicular is the normal stress perpendicular to the throat
  • Tau perpendicular is the shear stress (in the plane of the throat) perpendicular to the axis of the weld
  • Tau parallel is the shear stress (in the plane of the throat) parallel to the axis of the weld
See Design Resistance of a Fillet Weld for definitions of weld stresses.
Positive joint normal forces indicate that the top face of the terminated shell is in compression. See topic Edge Weld Definitions for descriptions of the edge weld forces.

Report Options

Save Saves the edge weld results to a comma delimited *.csv file. Use a text editor or Microsoft Excel to view this file.
Plot Generates a 2D graph of the results. Calculated weld sizes are listed for all mesh nodes along the weld seam's length.

A yellow sphere displayed with the connector's symbol shows the first node of the 2D results graph, the plot origin. The red arrow runs parallel to the weld seam's axis and points to the direction of the results' listing along the seam's length.
