Component Contact

You can model component contact in a motion study when components collide, roll, or slide. You can also use contact to constrain parts to touch throughout the motion analysis.

Include contact in a motion study to apply a force that prevents components from passing through each other during the motion calculation:

Three-dimensional solid body contact

You can define solid body contact between a set of components, or you can define contact between two groups of components.

Two-dimensional curve-to-curve contact

For Motion Analysis studies, define curve-to-curve contact when you can use curves to specify the contact between components. You can also constrain continual contact between curves during motion.

For Motion Analysis studies, you can account for frictional forces through component material properties when you define component contact. Alternatively, you can specify dynamic or static friction forces and elastic properties explicitly.
