Large Scale Design

Large Scale Design brings together the tools you need to effectively design machinery, heavy equipment, plants, small ships, and other large objects.

This section describes the SolidWorks tools you should use to accomplish specific tasks, plus explanations of some SolidWorks tools that are used extensively for large scale designing.

  • Sketching

    The sketch is the basis for 3D modeling and design. When you open a new part document, you first create a sketch.

  • Grid Systems

    You can use the Grid System tool to lay out a grid system for large structures.

  • Part Modeling

    The 3D part is the basic building block of any large scale design. Features are the individual shapes that, when combined, make up the part.

  • Weldments

    You can use Weldments to create a structure as a single multibody part.

  • Assemblies

    You can build complex assemblies consisting of many components, which can be parts or other assemblies, called subassemblies.

  • Walk-throughs

    You can simulate walking through a large scale design.

  • Drawings

    You can create drawings with Drawings and Detailing.
