Showing Summary Information

By mapping variables to the summary section of an office file, you can show the specifics in the Enterprise PDM file data card.

This procedure uses Microsoft Office 2007 property mappings.

To map a variable to show summary information:

  1. Create a variable named Page Count.
  2. Click New Attribute.
  3. Under Selected attribute:
    1. For Block name, select DocSummary.
    2. For Attribute name, type Pages.
    3. Type the file extensions to use the variable mapping, separated by commas.

For example, docx, xlsx, pptx, pub.

  4. Click OK.
  5. In the Card Editor, open the Office Card file data card.
  6. Add an edit box with the following properties:
    1. For Variable name, select the new Page Count variable.
    2. Under Flags, select Read-only.

The page count is read from the file. This prevents it being manually updated.

  7. Save the card and close the Card Editor.
When a user adds a .docx, .xlsx, .pptx, or .pub document to the vault, the page count is read from the document properties and shown in the document's file data card.
