If you are a SolidWorks Subscription Services customer, you can access a large library of materials via the online SolidWorks materials portal. This extended material database is provided through a partnership with Matereality LLC.
To download and apply a material from the SolidWorks Materials Web Portal:
- In the Material dialog box, select the option on the lower left side: Click here to access more materials using the SolidWorks Materials Web Portal.
The SolidWorks Materials Web Portal (hosted by Matereality LLC) is activated.
- Select the settings for Select Study, Select Material Model, and Select Type of Materials.
- Click Locate Materials.
Matereality searches for available materials based on the selection criteria. It lists all material matches in a matrix format.
- Hover the pointer over a specific material node to view information about its data source and material properties. Click the node to activate the material.
The selected material's page opens in a separate window. Material properties and details about the source of the data certificate are listed under the Properties, Material and Raw Data tabs.
- Click the Download button at the top left side. When prompted to open or save the material database (*.sldmat), click Save.
Note the folder location where the material database is stored.
- In the SolidWorks Material dialog box, click Open. Browse to the folder location of the material database to open the file (*.sldmat).
SolidWorks creates a new folder Matereality Materials in the material tree to store the material database.
You specify the default location of the SolidWorks Materials Web Portal database at . Select Material Databases for Show folders for.
All subsequent material downloads are stored under the Matereality Materials folder, in the appropriate subfolder (Rubber, Plastic, or Metal).
- Click Apply and then Close.
You can edit the properties of materials you download from the SolidWorks Materials Web Portal.
