Load History Curve

The Load History Curve dialog box allows you to define a load history curve for use with variable amplitude fatigue event.

Use the Scale entry in the Add Event (Variable) PropertyManager to relate the amplitude to the load applied in the study.

Curve Information Sets the name and type of curve.
  • Name. Sets the name of the curve.
  • Type. Sets the type of the curve:

    Amplitude only

Define curve by one column of data representing amplitude. Do not use this option if your study has multiple fatigue events with different sampling rates or starting times.

    Sampling rate & amplitude

Define curve by one column of data representing amplitude and specify a value for the sampling rate in seconds. Do not use this option if your study has multiple fatigue events with different starting times (time shifts).

    Time & amplitude

Define curve by two columns of data representing pairs of time and amplitude. This option lets you control the timing of multiple events accurately.

Curve Data Sets the units and lists the curve data.
  • Curve data table. Enter pairs of X ( time) and Y (amplitude) or Y only based on the curve type selected.
  • Preview. Graphs the current data in the table.
You can use copy and paste to populate the table.
  • Get curve. Imports curve data from a curve library.
The Function Curve dialog lets you import text files containing the data. The curve becomes available for use as a variable amplitude fatigue event. The text file must have a specific format.
  • Save curve. Saves curve data to a file.
  • View. Displays a detailed graph.
Load History Curves usually contain a large amount of data. We recommend that you include the curves that you expect to use in a curve library so that they become readily available for other documents and studies. Sample curves are included in the Simulation curve library.

Defining a New Load History Curve Manually

To define a new load history curve manually:

  1. Enter a name for the curve.
  2. From the Type menu, select Amplitude only, Sampling rate and amplitude, or Time & amplitude.
  3. If you select Sampling rate and amplitude, enter the sampling rate.
  4. Populate the table. If you selected Time & amplitude, you need to fill in the two columns. Otherwise, you need to populate the second column (amplitude) only.
  5. To save the curve for subsequent use, click Save Curve, specify a name and a destination folder for the curve library file and click Save.
  6. Click OK.
