Export/Import Overview

SOLIDWORKS Workgroup PDM includes two utilities that allow you to export all or some of the projects in your vault and import them into another Workgroup PDM vault or a SOLIDWORKS Enterprise PDM vault.

Examples of when you would export and import vault data are:

  • Combining the vaults from multiple offices.
  • Moving the data from Workgroup PDM to Enterprise PDM.

The document metadata is exported to an encrypted file in XML format. The following information is included in the exported file:

Documents Vault Settings
Properties Administrators
History Users
Annotations Groups
Links to attachments Permissions

Export can be performed on a server running Workgroup PDM Server, with a Workgroup PDM vault. Import must be performed on a server with both a destination vault and a copy of the Workgroup PDM source vault.
