Options for Modifying Geometry with the Intersect Tool

The Intersect PropertyManager includes three options that make it easier to create and modify geometry.

The options are:
Create intersecting regions Displays the selections, and creates and displays regions that intersect each other.
Create internal regions Creates and displays internal regions from enclosed (hollow) volumes within the intersection of the selections.
Create both Displays the selections, and creates and displays intersecting regions, and the internal (hollow) regions.

In previous releases, defining a part that included only the internal regions required removing all of the intersecting regions one at a time. The new Create internal regions option simplifies this task and allows you to measure properties, such as the internal volume, more easily.

To measure internal volume:

  1. Open install_dir\samples\whatsnew\parts\pot.sldprt.

  2. In the FeatureManager design tree, select Shell1 and Plane6.
  3. Click Intersect (Features toolbar) or Insert > Features > Intersect.
  4. In the PropertyManager, click Create internal regions and click Intersect.

  5. Click .

Two solid bodies are added to the FeatureManager design tree. Intersect[1] is the newly created region. Intersect[2] is the original model.

  6. In the FeatureManager design tree, select Intersect[1]. Then in the CommandManager, on the Evaluate tab, click Mass Properties.

The Mass Properties dialog box lists the calculated volume for the Intersect[1] body.
