Files added to a SOLIDWORKS PDM vault but never checked in are in the private state and cannot be accessed by other users. Only after checking in the files are they assigned a category and workflow and become accessible to other users (with sufficient access rights).
In a Professional vault, users with permission to see private state files can see the file names of these private state files (displayed in italics) but cannot access any file information until the file is checked in.
The private state ensures that no other user can retrieve an incomplete version of a file, such as when the user adding the file makes additional modifications to the file.
The SOLIDWORKS PDM Admin user can access files in the private state.
