Using Notifications to Access Task Error Logs

You can set up error notifications for a task to alert the task initiator and selected users when a task fails.

To set up a notification to track task errors:

  1. Under Tasks, double-click a task to display its Properties dialog box.
  2. In the left pane, click Error Notification.
  3. On the Users and Groups tabs, click Send for each user or group to be notified if the task fails.
  4. To send the error notification to the user who initiated the task, click Notify the user who launched the task.
  5. Type a subject for the notification.
    You can click to add text generated by dynamic variables.
  6. Type the message text.
    You can also add variables to the message.

Viewing the Error Log

If the task fails, error notification recipients receive notifications.

To use the notification to troubleshoot the problem:

  1. Open the notification message by doing one of the following:
    • If a notification balloon appears in the lower right corner of the screen, click it.
    • If the SOLIDWORKS PDM icon in the notification area to the right of the taskbar indicates a notification , click it.
    • At any time, click the SOLIDWORKS PDM icon in the notification area and click Inbox. Expand the vault and click Task Notifications. In the upper right pane, click the appropriate message.
  2. In the notification, click the link to the error log.

Use the information in the error log to identify the problem.

You can also send the error log to SOLIDWORKS PDM Technical Support for assistance with the problem.
