Treat as Remote Mass PropertyManager

Bodies that are treated as remote masses are excluded from meshing, but their mass properties and moments of inertia are considered in analysis.

To access the Treat as Remote Mass PropertyManager, right-click a solid body icon in the Simulation study tree and select Treat as Remote Mass.

Selection

part.png Body Selected solid body in a multi-body part or an assembly component.
Faces, edges, or vertices for Remote Mass Select the faces, edges, and vertices that connect the body to the rest of the model. These entities can only deform as a rigid body.
Apply Force/Moment at CG Select to apply forces and moments at the CG (Center of Gravity) of the selected body. If selected, define the Reference Coordinate System, Force, Moment, and Symbol settings.

Reference Coordinate System

Select the Global or a User defined coordinate system.

Force

Units Specify the units of the force.

X-direction

Y-direction

Z-direction

Select a direction and enter a value for the force in that direction.
Reverse direction Select to reverse the force direction.

Moment

Units Specify the units of the moment.

X-direction

Y-direction

Z-direction

Select a direction and enter a value for the moment about that direction.
Reverse direction Select to reverse the moment direction.

Variation with Time

Available for modal time history linear dynamic studies.

Linear Define a linear time curve which passes through the points (0,0) and (tend, Xi), where Xi is the value of the i-component of the force/moment specified, and tend is the End time specified on the Dynamic Options tab of the Modal Time History dialog box.
Curve Define a user-defined time curve. Click Edit to define or import a time curve.
View Display the actual time-dependent force or moment.

Variation with Frequency

Available for harmonic and random vibration linear dynamic studies.

Constant Specify constant force or moment for the full range of operating frequencies.
Curve Specify a user-defined frequency curve. Click Edit to define or import a frequency curve.
View Display the actual frequency-dependent force or moment.

Symbol Settings

Edit Color Click to change the color of the remote mass symbols.
Symbol size Change the size of the remote mass symbols.
Show preview Turns the display of the remote mass symbols on and off.
