Attaching to the Web Server

You must attach to a Web server to manage it.

If the SOLIDWORKS PDM Web server system is located behind a firewall, HTTP port 80 (or HTTPS port 443) must be open between the Web server and the client using the SOLIDWORKS PDM administration tool (typically it is open).

To attach to a Web server:

  1. Right-click Web Servers and select Add Web Server.
  2. In the Add Web Server dialog box, type the Web Server Name.

The name is for identification only and does not have to match any real server name.

  3. Type the Connection URL the Administration tool will use to connect to the virtual directory for SOLIDWORKS PDM access files.

    Use the format:

    http://<webserverURL>/DirectoryAlias>

    or if using SSL:

    https://<webserverURL>/DirectoryAlias>

  4. In the login dialog box, type the User name and Password of a user in the SOLIDWORKS PDM Web Admins group on the Web server.
The Web Admins group is created during SOLIDWORKS PDM installation.

If you are logging in a domain user, add the Domain name.

  5. In the Add Public URL dialog box, type the Public URL that clients outside the network use to access the SOLIDWORKS PDM virtual directory.

If you have a DNS name, use the format:

    http://<www.company.com>/DirectoryAlias>

If you use SSL for SOLIDWORKS PDM Web access, in Secure URL, type the secure connection URL. (that is, https://...)

The SOLIDWORKS PDM Web server is listed in the Web Servers tree in the left pane.

To view or change information about a Web server, right-click it and select Properties.
