The SOLIDWORKS Workgroup PDM Application Programming Interface (API) is an OLE programming interface to Workgroup PDM, which allows you to automate and customize Workgroup PDM.

The API contains functions that you can call from Visual Basic (VB), Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), VB.NET, C++ 6.0, C++.NET, and C#.NET. These functions provide direct access to the Workgroup PDM environment. It is assumed that you are familiar with at least one of these programming languages.

To access Workgroup PDM API help:

Navigate to the API help location:

  • install_dir\Program Files\SOLIDWORKS Corp\SOLIDWORKS\api\pdmworksapi.chm
  • install_dir\Program Files (x86)\SOLIDWORKS Corp\SOLIDWORKS Workgroup PDM\api\pdmworksapi.chm
  • install_dir\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\SOLIDWORKS Shared\pdmworksapi.chm
If you did not install Workgroup PDM API, then help is not available.

Installing the Workgroup PDM API

To install Workgroup PDM API:

  1. In Windows, click Start > Control Panel.
  2. Click Uninstall a program.
  3. Select SOLIDWORKS Workgroup PDM Server and click Change.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to modify the installation.
