Moving Components

The Move tool lets you move components in an assembly file or in a drawing file of an assembly. eDrawings ignores mates, allowing full degrees of freedom. You can also move subassemblies as a unit.

To move components:

  1. Open a CAD or eDrawings assembly or drawing file of an assembly.
  2. Click Move or Tools > Move Component.
  3. In the Move Components pane, select an option:
    Option Description
Free drag Lets you select a component and drag it to a new position.
Use triad or enter values Lets you use the triad to constrain component movement to a coordinate axis or plane, or to rotate components about a coordinate axis.
    move_triad.gif
If you drag the triad by:
    • An arm, the component is dragged along the axis of the arm.
    • A wing, the component is dragged along the coordinate axis.
    • A ring, the component is rotated about the coordinate axis.
You must select a component to define these settings:

    Position move_position.gif

Lets you set the units and X, Y, and Z coordinates of the triad.

    Translate move_translate.gif

Lets you set the units and increment values in X, Y, and Z for the triad. Click minus.gif or plus.gif to change X, Y, and Z by the increment value.

    Rotate move_rotate.gif

Lets you set the angle in degrees by which the component rotates about the X, Y, and Z axes. Click minus.gif or plus.gif to change X, Y, and Z by the increment value.

  4. Click Move again to release the tool.
Moved components remain in their new positions if you save the file. If you close the file without saving, all components return to their original positions the next time you open the file.
