Convert SOLIDWORKS Workgroup PDM Files

Convert Workgroup PDM Files uses the SOLIDWORKS Task Scheduler to convert Workgroup PDM vault files that were created at an earlier SOLIDWORKS release to the current release. Only vault administrators are allowed to convert files. The vault is locked automatically during the conversion process.

When converting Workgroup PDM vault files from SOLIDWORKS Task Scheduler, all documents open in a resolved state (not lightweight). Make sure the computer on which you run the conversion has enough memory to complete this procedure.

You can convert the complete vault or specify projects. You can specify that only the latest revision be converted. A log file lists any documents that do not convert. The list of files that convert successfully appears in Task Scheduler.

Recommendations:

  • Back up all files before converting them
  • Select Update by project and files (do not convert the complete vault in one operation)
  • Select Latest revision only (in Options)
  • Be sure Task working folder (specified in Advanced Options) has enough disk space to hold all the files
  • Specify Time out (in Advanced Options)
  • If a project uses standard library files from a shared location, these files must be accessible to the computer on which you are running the conversion.

Workgroup PDM Projects

Include subprojects Documents in subprojects are included in the conversion.
Add Project Click to open the Workgroup PDM Projects dialog box, select a project from the list, then click OK. The name of the project appears under Project in the window. Repeat to add more projects.
Delete To delete a project from the Project list, select the project and click Delete.
File Name or Type To filter the files in a project based on type, select a type from the list for each project. The choices are parts (*.prt, *.sldprt), assemblies (*.asm ,*.sldasm), drawings (*.drw ,*.slddrw), all SOLIDWORKS files (*.sldprt, *.sldasm, *.slddrw), or all files (*.*).

Task Schedule

Running mode Select Once, Daily, Weekly, or Monthly. If you schedule a conversion for more than once, the Task Scheduler detects files that have already been converted and does nothing at subsequent tasks.
Start time Each recurring task starts at the specified time of day.
Start date Tasks scheduled Daily occur every day from the specified date, including Saturday and Sunday. Tasks scheduled Weekly occur on the same day of the week (Monday, Tuesday, and so on). Tasks scheduled Monthly occur on the same day of the month (1, 2, and so on). If you select a day of the month that does not exist (29, 30, or 31 in some months) no task is scheduled for that month.

Options

Specify SOLIDWORKS Workgroup PDM Convert Options.

Table 1. Revision
Latest revision only If cleared, all revisions in the selected project or vault are updated.
Table 2. Additional File Checking
Check if files can be re-opened after update Converted files are re-opened to verify file integrity. Task Scheduler reports any issues found but does not back out converted files from the vault.
Selecting this option greatly increases conversion time.

Advanced

Specify Task Options such as Task working folder, Time out (seconds), and Backup task files.
