Creating Equations in External Files

You can create equations in a text file and then import them into one or more parts and assemblies.

  1. Open a text file in an application such as Notepad.
  2. Type equations in the same format as used in the Equations dialog box.
    For example, you might define a global variable, base, and define two related dimensions.
    "base" = 20
    "D1@Boss-Extrude1" = "base" + 10
    "D2@Sketch1" = ("base"*3) + 5
  3. Save the text file.
You can import the text file into one or more parts and assemblies with the Equations dialog box. You can choose to link models to the text file, so that changes you make in the text file update the equations and variables in the models.
