Evaluating the Cost of Assemblies in Flat Tree Mode

To evaluate the cost of an assembly:

  1. In an assembly, click Tools > SOLIDWORKS Applications > Costing .
  2. In the Costing Task Pane, under Costing Templates, in Main template, select a template.
  3. Under Part List, do the following:
    1. Click Flat Tree.
    2. Select the parts for:
      • Costs to be calculated
      • Cost Defined
To change the category of a part, use Type of cost estimation. You can manually define costs under Type of cost estimation for purchased parts to override pre-defined costs.
  4. To set or change a predefined cost, select the part in Cost defined and type the cost.
  5. Select parts under Toolbox Parts and set one of the following:
    Term Definition
Exclude Excludes the selected bodies from cost calculations.
Include Includes the selected bodies for cost calculations.
  6. Click Begin Cost Estimation.
It is recommended that each part in an assembly is costed separately to adjust specific manufacturing details. You can save the part with costing data, then run Costing on the assembly. Clicking Cancel during the costing operation of a large assembly may increase the time taken to abort the process.
