Linear Component Pattern

You can create a linear pattern of components in an assembly in one or two directions. You can use linear patterns to rotate pattern instances along a pattern direction.

To create a linear pattern of components:

  1. Click Linear Component Pattern (Assembly toolbar) or Insert > Component Pattern > Linear Pattern.
  2. In the PropertyManager, specify options under Direction 1:
Pattern Direction Defines the direction to extend the pattern. Select a linear edge or a linear dimension.
Reverse Direction Reverses the side on which the pattern propagates from the seed component.
Spacing Specifies the value between the centers of the instances.
Number of Instances Specifies the total number of instances including the seed components.
Rotate instances Rotates the instances based on an input value around a selected axis.

You can rotate instances as follows:

    • Rotate instances based on an input value.
    • Rotate instances about a selected axis.
    • Align rotated instances to the seed instance.
Axis of rotation Specifies the axis that the pattern rotates around. The axis must be parallel to Direction 1.
Reverse Direction Reverses the direction of the rotation.
Angle Specifies the angular increment for each pattern instance.
Align to seed Aligns each instance to match the original alignment of the seed feature.
Reference point Select a reference point:
    • Bounding box center
    • Component origin

These options appear when you select Align to seed.

  3. Repeat for Direction 2 for a bidirectional pattern.
Select Pattern seed only to pattern only the seed component in the second direction. When cleared, the seed component plus all of the instances generated by Direction 1 are patterned in the second direction.
  4. Click in Components to Pattern , then select the seed components.
  5. To skip instances, click in Instances to Skip and select the preview of the instance in the graphics area.
The pointer changes to when it is over a preview in the graphics area.

To restore a skipped instance, select it in Instances to Skip and press Delete.

  6. Optional. Under Options, select the following:
Synchronize movement of flexible subassembly components (Useful when you pattern flexible subassemblies.) Moves components in the patterned instances when you move components in the seed flexible subassembly, and vice versa.
  7. Click .
The new components appear under LocalLPattern in the FeatureManager design tree.

By default, all instances use the same configuration as the seed components. To change the configuration, edit the component properties of an instance.
