Selecting and Building the Wheels

To select and build the wheels:

  1. In the Camera Panel, use the perspective selector to position the car model so that you are viewing it from the side.
  2. Zoom in so the side view of the car fills most of the 3D View.
  3. On the toolbar, click Selection Tool > Part to go to part mode.
  4. Drag a selection box around the center of the car, from above the roof to below the undercarriage.
Keep the box narrow enough to avoid selecting any part in the wheels or calipers.
  5. Press Ctrl+H to hide the selected parts.
  6. Repeat the previous two steps to select and hide all other parts, except for the parts composing the wheels and calipers.
When you are done, the only visible parts should be in the wheels and calipers.
  7. Select every part in the wheels – including brake rotors, rims, and nuts – except the calipers.
The calipers typically rotate with the wheels when the steering is turned; they do not spin with the wheels.
  8. In the Palette, on the Models tab under Vehicle Setup, click Create Wheels from Selected Parts.
This builds the joints for the wheels.
