Converting a Raster Image

Before using Image Tracer, take note of the following:
  • You can only convert one image at a time.
  • You can insert raster images in .bmp, .png, and .jpg formats.
  • To prevent an image from snapping to the wrong point, disable ESnap by pressing F3 on the keyboard.

To convert a raster image:

  1. Insert the image to the Model tab and position it with the crosshair by specifying the start and end of the image area.

For example, start from the bottom left point to the upper right point of the referenced image. You can also enter 2D-point coordinates in the Command window.

  2. Enable Image Tracer by doing one of the following:
    • On the ribbon, from Drafting and Annotation, click Add-Ins > Image Tracer.
    • Type _IMAGE_TRACER at the command prompt.

The software automatically detects the profile type of the image. For example, if the image is a logo, it loads the Logo profile. Logo-Lo Res and Logo Multiple Colors are also available in the drop-down list.

  3. In the Basic tab, do the following:
    1. Under Geometry options, select the entities that you want to extract from the image. Lines are selected by default.
    2. Under View options, move the slider or enter values to adjust the transparency.

You can also select Hide Image to display only the required entities in the graphics area and Disable dynamic update to prevent the preview from updating every time you make a change.

    3. Under Image options, move the slider or enter values to adjust the brightness and contrast in the image.
  4. Click the Advanced tab to enhance edges or curves segments in the image.

For information, see the Advanced Tab Options topic.

  5. In the Basic tab, click Ok to add the vectorized geometry to the active layer.
You can continue adjusting settings in the Basic and Advanced tabs. Keep in mind that every time you click Ok, it can take time for the software to process updates.
