You can break the link of the inserted part file with the original part file. By default, when you open a third-party native CAD part file, the inserted part file retains the link to the original file.
To break the link from the original part file:
- In the FeatureManager design tree, right-click the inserted third-party native CAD file and click Break Link.
- In the dialog box, click one of the following:
- Yes, break the link (cannot be undone) . Breaks the link of the inserted part file from the original file.
- Do nothing and cancel the command . Exits the break link command.
Select Do this for all components to apply break
link to all the components of the assembly file.
By breaking the link, the inserted part feature dissolves and the part
retains all the folders and sub-folders. All the inserted part features become regular
SOLIDWORKS features that you can modify or delete.
This is an irreversible action and you cannot
connect the part with the original part after breaking the link. You cannot
update the part with the original part and the Import Feature PropertyManager is
not available after breaking the link.
In assemblies, only the inserted assembly feature dissolves and
becomes a SOLIDWORKS virtual assembly. All the top level components retain their
original states and refer to the original CAD file.
