Creating an Animation

You can animate a selected item (entire models, individual parts, groups of models or parts, appearances, lights, and cameras).

To create an animation:

  1. Use the Selection Tool to select an item to animate.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Right-click the selection and click Add Keyframe.
    • For rotation animations, click Add Rotation Animation.
    A new animation appears in the animation list, with the state of the selected item recorded in the first keyframe.
  3. In the Animation timeline, do the following:
    1. Set the maximum potential end time by dragging the red flag (end time) to the desired end time.
    2. Drag the yellow flag (current time) to the desired time of the next keyframe.
  4. Use the Object Manipulation Tools to transform the selection for the next keyframe.
  5. Do one of the following to add the next keyframe:
    • In the animation list, click Create Keyframe at Current Time .
    • Right-click in the 3D Viewport and click Add Keyframe.
  6. Repeat steps 3b through 6 to add additional keyframes to the animation.
  7. Use the basic animation controls on the left side of the timeline to evaluate and play the animation.
