Starting a New Drawing with the Default Template Drawing

Use the SmartNew command to start a new drawing with the default template drawing specified in the Options dialog box, System Options.

Note: If the drawing template is not specified, the SmartNew command uses the most recently used drawing template.

To start a new drawing with the default template drawing:

  • Type SmartNew at the command prompt.

    A new drawing opens.

By default, the new drawing is named NONAME_n.dwg.

To set the default template drawing:

  1. Click Tools > Options (or type Options).

Click Tools > Options (or type Options).

Click Application menu > Preferences (or type Options).

  2. In the Options dialog box, click System Options .
  3. Expand Open / Save As > Template file name for SmartNew.
  4. Click Browse to set a different template drawing.

In contrast to the SmartNew command, the New command requests a template drawing.
