Adding an Injection Location

Each injection location is defined by a set of mesh faces through which the polymer material flows. You must define at least one injection location for each cavity. You may define as many additional injection locations as you like.

To add an injection location to a cavity:

  1. Mesh the part cavity with a surface or solid mesh.
  2. In the Injection Location PropertyManager:
    1. Adjust the approximate size of the gate in Pointer Diameter. This value is used to automatically select mesh faces for the injection location.
    2. On the surface of the cavity, position the injection location. The conical pointer is displayed at the nearest mesh node. You can modify the pointer diameter to re-position your selection on the cavity.
    3. Click Add Location.
The injection location is added to the selection box, and the mesh elements that are fully enclosed by the pointer diameter are automatically selected. At least one mesh element is selected.
    4. For a solid mesh only, click Injection Location (Face) to view the highlighted mesh faces that define the injection location. You can select mesh faces to add or remove. For example, select all of the faces at the top of a sprue.
    5. Click .
    • Click Automatically Add Locations and select how many injection locations to add on the part. Injection locations are added based on the part geometry and optimized balanced fill pattern.
    • Click Predict Flow Pattern to preview the flow prediction at the end of fill. If you are not satisfied with the predicted flow pattern, you can re-position the location of injection by deleting the current one.
