SOLIDWORKS Materials Web Portal

If you are a SOLIDWORKS Subscription Services customer with a license of SOLIDWORKS Simulation, you can access the SOLIDWORKS Materials Web Portal from the Material dialog box.

The SOLIDWORKS Materials Web Portal is an external database of materials supported by Matereality LLC. The material properties are tested by Matereality LLC tests and verified through published research and catalogs supplied by various materials vendors. The database is searchable by the type of simulation study and material model.

Access to the SOLIDWORKS Materials Web Portal

The SOLIDWORKS Materials Web Portal is:
  • Fully accessible to SOLIDWORKS subscription services customers who have a license of SOLIDWORKS Simulation Professional or SOLIDWORKS Simulation Premium.
  • Partially accessible to SOLIDWORKS subscription services customers who have a license of SOLIDWORKS Simulation Standard. These customers can only download materials that have properties for linear static and fatigue studies (a limited subset of the full set of available materials).
  • Not accessible to SOLIDWORKS subscription services customers who have a SOLIDWORKS license only (SOLIDWORKS Standard, SOLIDWORKS Professional, or SOLIDWORKS Premium).

If you are a SOLIDWORKS Subscription Services customer and your license has expired, click > Licenses > Activate to reactivate your license.

Applying Material from the SOLIDWORKS Materials Web Portal

To download and apply a material from the SOLIDWORKS Materials Web Portal:

  1. In the Material dialog box, select Click here to access more materials using the SOLIDWORKS Materials Web Portal on the lower left side.
    The SOLIDWORKS Materials Web Portal (hosted by Matereality LLC) is activated.
  2. Select the settings for Select Study, Select Material Model, and Select Type of Materials.
  3. Click Locate Materials.
    Matereality searches for available materials based on the selection criteria. It lists all material matches in a matrix format.
  4. Hover the pointer over a specific material node to view information about its data source and material properties. Click the node to activate the material.
    The selected material's page opens in a separate window. Material properties and details about the source of the data certificate are listed under the Properties, Material, and Raw Data tabs.
  5. Click Download at the upper left side. When prompted to open or save the material database (*.sldmat), click Save.
    Note the folder location where the material database is stored.
  6. In the SOLIDWORKS Material dialog box, click Open. Browse to the folder location of the material database to open the file (*.sldmat).
    SOLIDWORKS creates a new folder Matereality Materials in the material tree to store the material database.
    You specify the default location of the SOLIDWORKS Materials Web Portal database at Tools > Options > System Options > File Locations . Select Material Databases for Show folders for.
    All subsequent material downloads are stored under the Matereality Materials folder, in the appropriate subfolder (Rubber, Plastic, or Metal).
  7. Click Apply and then Close.
  • You can edit the properties of materials you download from the SOLIDWORKS Materials Web Portal.
  • For fatigue studies, when you download data from S-N curves, Simulation converts the reported maximum stress values to alternating stresses. The S-N curve data are stored in Simulation in a *.sldmat file format.
  • For a viscoelastic material model, when you download data from Relaxation Modulus (G) versus Time curve, Simulation only saves the curve data that are lower than the given Shear Modulus value.
