Component Pattern with Variable Instances

You can vary the linear or angular spacing of individual instances of linear and circular component patterns to override the pattern spacing.

You can use these options in a callout to modify the spacing and direction of an instance:

Distance from seed

Specifies the absolute value from the seed component. Use only positive values.

Available for linear component patterns.

Angle from seed

Specifies the angle from the seed to the selected instance. Use only positive values.

Available for circular component patterns.

Offset from nominal

Specifies the relative value to the nominal position of the selected instance.

The nominal position of the instance is the location of the instance before the modification.

You can specify positive and negative values. For negative values, the absolute distance to the seed must be positive.

Available for linear and circular component patterns.

In the Linear Component Pattern and Circular Component PropertyManagers, Instances to Skip is renamed to Instances to Override. You can specify instances to skip in Skipped instances . Use Modified instances to specify instances to modify.

Modifying an Instance in a Linear Component Pattern

To modify an instance in a linear component pattern:

  1. Open system_dir:\Users\Public\Public Documents\SOLIDWORKS\SOLIDWORKS 2020\samples\whatsnew\assemblies\patterns\Vary_Pattern.SLDASM.
  2. In the FeatureManager design tree, right-click LocalLPattern1 and click Edit Feature .
  3. In the PropertyManager, under Instances to Override, click in Modified instances . In the graphics area, pink selection orbs display on the pattern instances.
  4. Click the selection orb for 4,1 and click Modify Instance.

  5. In the callout, modify the value for Dir 1 offset from nominal to -60mm and click outside of the callout.

A shadow instance appears in the new position.

  6. In the PropertyManager, click .
