You can insert non-native (*.catpart, *.ipt,
*.par, *.prt) or neutral (*.iges, *.igs, *.jt,
*.sat, *.step, *.stp) CAD files into an active SOLIDWORKS part or assembly
file. You can also drag a non-native or neutral CAD file into an active SOLIDWORKS part or
assembly file.
SOLIDWORKS Part Files
To insert a non-native or neutral CAD file into an active SOLIDWORKS part, click .
When you drag the CAD files into the active SOLIDWORKS part file, a prompt appears:
Are you trying to make a derived part?
- Click Yes to insert
the part as a derived part feature.
- Click No to open the
part in a new window as a new document.

To insert a non-native or neutral CAD file into an active SOLIDWORKS assembly,
