Explode commands add space between two or more actors.

During explode transformations, actors move along the transformation axis based on their bounding box centers. The actor whose bounding box center is the farthest from the movement direction does not move. In the following example, the green axis shows the movement direction (to the right). The actors move in the order shown, with actor 4 remaining stationary.

Note: If you reverse the direction of movement (to the left), actors move in reverse order, and actor 1 remains stationary.
