Working with Dimension Bounding Boxes

You can group entities within dimension bounding boxes to accelerate dimensioning. Dimension bounding boxes help you to align the dimensions of assembled entities along the box margins at defined offsets.

The dimension bounding box is represented by a gray dashed rectangle on the X-Y plane.

The software links the enclosed entities with the bounding box. The dimension bounding box updates automatically when the geometry of selected entities changes, existing entities are deleted, or new entities added. Moving or copying the entities from the bounding box automatically moves or copies the dimension bounding box as well.

After you create the dimension bounding boxes, the SmartDimension command uses them to line dimensions up with each other. Also, dimension widgets can assist you to assign dimensions at defined locations.

You cannot select and edit the dimension bounding box in the graphics area. The dimension bounding box updates automatically as the set of entities changes.

Dimension bounding boxes update automatically in the following situations:
  • Existing geometry changes
  • New entities are added to the bounding box
  • Some entities are deleted from the drawing
  • Some entities are removed from the dimension bounding boxes
