Changing Inherited Folder Values

The information entered in fields on a folder card is always inherited to any underlying folders. This means that you do not have to add information into every single subfolder unless the information should change. If so, the new information is inherited by its subfolders.

For example, if a user who is logged into a vault through Windows File Explorer enters information in the Edit Values tab of a folder card, any subfolders below inherit the information and display it in the View Values tab.

To change folder values:

  1. In Windows File Explorer, log into a vault.
  2. On the Data Card tab, switch to the Edit Values tab.

All fields that inherit values are empty, unless there is an exclusive value saved for the folder, or the option Show inherited values is set on the Explorer tab of your user Settings. In that case inherited values are also displayed.

  3. Update a field with an exclusive value.

The new value is inherited into its subfolders and displayed on the View Values tab.
