Bill of Materials for Routing Assemblies

When you create a BOM (Bill of Materials) for a route assembly, you can select a template that causes each unique cut length of pipe to be listed as a separate item. The template also assigns part numbers based on a configuration-specific property.

Otherwise, inserting and editing a BOM is the same as it is with other types of assembly drawings.

You can add a BOM to a routing assembly or to a selected drawing view for the routing assembly.

You can insert a table-based Bill of Materials or an Excel-based Bill of Materials in a drawing, but not both.

Create the template for the Routing Assembly BOM before you include the BOM with the assembly or drawing view.

Creating a Table-Based Bill of Materials

To create a table-based bill of materials for a route assembly or selected drawing view:

  1. Click Insert > Tables > Bill of Materials.
  2. In the Bill of Materials PropertyManager, select a template under Table Template (bom-standard.sldbomtbt, for example).
You can view spools in the Bill of Materials as separate entries. In the Bill of Materials PropertyManager, click Routing Component Grouping > Group spool components.
  3. Set other options and click PM_OK.gif.
  4. Click in the graphics area to place the table.

Adding a Column

To add a column to the bill of materials:

  1. Right-click in a column of the BOM table and select Insert > Column Left or Column Right.
  2. For Column Type, select a column type.
  3. Select a property from the list, for example SWPipeLength, under Route Property.
  4. Click PM_OK.gif.
The column is populated with values of the selected property.

Creating an Excel-based BOM

To create an Excel-based BOM for a selected route assembly drawing view:

  1. Click Excel Based Bill of Materials (Table toolbar) or Insert > Tables > Excel Based Bill of Materials.
  2. In the Select BOM Template dialog box, browse to <install_dir>\lang\<language>, and select Piping BOM Template.xls.
  3. Select options in the Bill of Materials Properties dialog box and click OK.

Special Columns for Piping Assemblies

The BOM includes special columns for piping assemblies:
  • The PART NO. column displays the configuration-specific property SWbompartno (the sample routing parts include this property in the design tables).
  • Each configuration of a fitting has a different part number.
  • All route segments cut from the same raw stock have the same part number.
  • Each unique cut length of pipe is listed as a separate item using the property SWPipeLength, with the length displayed in the CUT LENGTH column.
If you edit the template in Excel, do not edit the text in the Name box for any of the default columns.

Excel_BOM_Name.gif

You can create custom columns in the Piping BOM Template. For example, you can create a column for the property SWElbowAngle (the angle of an elbow component).

See Bill of Materials - Custom Properties for more information.

There are also hidden columns in the template; do not show, edit, or delete the hidden columns.
