Creating Dimension Bounding Boxes

Use the DimBoundingBox command to create a dimension bounding box that encloses selected entities in order to accelerate dimensioning.

You can add or remove entities from a dimension bounding box any time. The dimension bounding box updates automatically.

Dimension bounding boxes are controlled by the Bounding Box settings specified in the Options dialog box. You can access these settings from Drawing Settings > Dimension Snap Offset Distances.

When the additional lines of dimension bounding boxes make the drawing hard to read, use the Dimension Bounding Box button on the Status bar to turn the bounding box display on and off.
Dimension bounding boxes cannot include the following entities:
  • Infinite lines
  • Rays
  • Dimensions
  • Annotations
  • Proxy entities

To create dimension bounding boxes:

  1. Do one of the following:
    • On the ribbon, click Annotate > Dimensions > Dimension Bounding Boxes.
    • On the menu, click Dimensions > Dimension Bounding Boxes.
    • Type DimBoundingBox.
  2. If the dimension bounding boxes are disabled, specify Yes in the Command Window.
  3. In the graphics area, specify entities and press Enter.
  4. Alternatively, you can also create a dimension bounding box by right-clicking the entities in the graphics area and select Dimension Bounding Box > Create.
The dimension bounding box is created around the selected entities.
