Organize Template Variables

Use the Organize Template Variables dialog box to set up variables that can be used in the template.

To display this dialog box:

Click Template Variables from the Template Cards or Files and Folders screens in the template wizard.

Variables The list of template variables.

Selected Variable

Name Type the variable name.
Type Select the variable type:
Environment variable

Select an environment variable from the list to use as the value for the template variable.

Format string

Create a string for the template variable by typing static text and clicking > to select variables.

Various date and time options are also available, and you can also select from existing template variable values to build up a new combined string. For example, you can have two existing template variables and create a third string variable that uses the two existing values.

Name of logged in user

The user name of the user running the template. (Use template cards for more name options.)

Prompt the user

Prompt for user input (using a dialog box) when the user runs the template. Type the prompt string.

You will get more dynamic input dialogs by using template cards.
Serial number

Select an existing serial number from the list to assign this template variable. If you use serial numbers in the data cards of files created by the template, you should use the Disable standard serial number generation option so as not to skip two serial numbers at the same time.

New Click to create a new variable, then type a Name, select the Type, and enter a value (for all types except Name of logged in user).
Remove To remove a variable, select the variable, then click Remove.
