Educational Edition

The Educational Edition is a version of SOLIDWORKS Electrical specifically developed for the education and training sector. It has the same features as the commercial edition, but data cannot be exchanged between the two editions.

Installing the software

The installation program is the same for both editions (Educational and commercial). The software can be installed on a single workstation or in client/server mode.

The type of edition is defined only when the license is activated.

License activation

As with the commercial edition, you must activate a license for the Educational Edition. Refer to the installation documentation for further information on licenses.

Restrictions

Apart from electrical projects, it is not possible to use data (symbols, title blocks...) from the Educational Edition on the commercial edition.

Electrical project archives

Electrical projects created in the Educational Edition may be unarchived on the commercial edition, but the data (symbols, title blocks...) cannot be put into the library. Electrical projects created in the Educational Edition can be opened on the commercial edition, but the following actions will not be available:

  • Data update when unarchiving the electrical project

  • Save schemes as a macro

  • Save PLC I/O macros

  • Copy project-specific configurations to application-specific configurations

  • Save graphical data in the libraries

  • Save cable references or manufacturer parts in the catalogs

Data archives (symbols, manufacturer parts...)

Files from archives created in the Educational Edition cannot be unarchived on the commercial edition.

Drawings

On the Educational Edition, each drawing has an annotation specifying that it was created on the Educational Edition.
