Material Database Manager

You select a material to apply to Polymer, Insert, Mold, and Coolant domains from the Default Database or a User-defined Database.

In SOLIDWORKS Plastics, Product is the term for a specific polymer, metal, or coolant. The term Material defines a group of related polymers, metals, or coolants.

To open the Material Database Manager:

  • In the PlasticsManager , under Material , right-click a domain and select Open Database.
The Default Database contains materials that are read-only. You create and store custom materials in the User-defined Database.

Copy Copies the selected material and all its properties to the clipboard. To begin adding a custom material, paste the selected material properties to the User-defined Database.
Find Opens the Find Product dialog box. Search the material database for a specific Product name.

When you click Find from the Polymer material dialog box, you can use Options to search for polymer materials within a specific Material group, or with properties within a specified range.

User-defined Database

Add Product Opens the Product Manager dialog box. Enter the product name and material properties for a custom material to add under the selected Material group.
Add Material Opens the Polymer Material Manager. This dialog box allows you to create a new Material group, and is only available from the Polymer material dialog box.
Delete Deletes the selected Product or Material group.
Edit Edits properties associated with the selected Product or Material group.
Paste Click Paste to add a material previously copied to the clipboard to the active Material group.
Find Opens the Find Product dialog box. Search the material database for a specific Product name.

When you click Find from the Polymer material dialog box, you can use Options to search for polymer materials within a specific Material group, or with properties within a specified range.

Import Plastic Material Imports a file of one or more materials in the SOLIDWORKS Plastics binary, Excel, or Materiality XML format.
Export Products

Selected Product

Exports the selected Product in the SOLIDWORKS Plastics binary or Excel format.

Selected Material

Exports the selected Material group in the SOLIDWORKS Plastics binary format.

All

Exports the entire polymer, metal, or coolant database in the SOLIDWORKS Plastics binary format.
