SOLIDWORKS Electrical Schematic
- Exercise #01
This first exercise allows you to discover the fundamentals of the SOLIDWORKS Electrical Schematic
software; how to use a specific environment, what is the differences between
a simple file and a schematic drawing, and how to use the interface tools.
Unarchiving
environment
By this
link, download the Environment archive file and unarchive it.
An environment archive file contains all the data you need
in the SOLIDWORKS Electrical,
such as symbols, manufacturer parts, configurations, or electrical
projects. It is used to forward data to other companies or to
another workstation. You can also use it to save data before reinstalling
the software. |
1. After downloading the archive file, open it with
the unarchive command.

|
Menu: Home >
Unarchive environment |
2. Select the EnvironmentForTraining.tewzip
file.
3. In the Selection
tab, you can select the objects you want to restore (Select all).
4. Click the Finish
button. SOLIDWORKS Electrical
lists all the objects which are restored/imported.

Some
recommendations before starting
Files/Drawings
Files and drawings are documents in which you can draw,
but you must know the difference between these two types of documents.
The drawings or electrical drawings are automatically
saved into the database which allows the automatic processes,
such as reports or terminal strips. Files are only simple DWG
files without "intelligence". Your electrical scheme
must be done into Drawings
and not in DWG files. |
Zooms
To zoom into the drawings, you can use the commands of the
View menu or use the mouse
wheel. Turn the wheel to zoom in or zoom out. Click and maintain
the click on the wheel to do a real-time pan. Double-clicking
on the wheel makes a zoom extent on all the drawing entities. |
Selection modes
During the scheme design, you
will need to select objects. Here are some instructions to do
it.
When you want to select one object,
it is very easy; click on it. If you want to select several objects,
click on them and press the [Ctrl]
key and hold it down during the selection. To select several objects,
you can also use the rectangle selection. Draw a rectangle (defined
by its diagonal) left to right around the objects. All the objects
included in the rectangle outline are selected. Another possibility,
the capture selection. It's the same way of the rectangle selection
but drawn right to left. All the objects that have a part of it
in the rectangle outline are selected. |
