Update

The Update page lets you configure updates of your model geometry from CAD sources.

This page discusses:

Views

This section lets you specify how actor visibility is stored in view definitions. This setting affects file size and load time, and also determines the visibility of new actors resulting from document updates.

The Define actor visibility in views by option applies to File > Update > Composer Document only, not Geometry > Update .

Notes:
  • This option also affects animation visibility (actor visibility at time=0).
  • This option does not affect custom views. Custom views that capture actor visibility always list visible actors.
  • In all modes, ghosted actors are always listed in view definitions.

Option Description Illustration
Define actor visibility in views by: Visible actors All visible geometry and collaborative actors are listed in view definitions. New actors resulting from document updates are hidden.

Define actor visibility in views by: Hidden actors All hidden geometry and collaborative actors are listed in view definitions. New actors resulting from document updates are visible.

Define actor visibility in views by: Visible assemblies All visible collaborative actors are listed in view definitions, and geometry actors are listed as follows:
  • Visible assemblies are listed, but their subassemblies and parts are not. New actors resulting from document updates are visible (inherit assembly visibility).
  • Hidden assemblies are not listed, nor are their subassemblies and parts. New actors resulting from document updates are hidden.
  • Mixed-visibility assemblies are not listed, but their visible parts are. New actors resulting from document updates are hidden.
For more compact view definitions, choose Visible assemblies or Hidden assemblies.

Define actor visibility in views by: Hidden assemblies All hidden collaborative actors are listed in view definitions, and geometry actors are listed as follows:
  • Hidden assemblies are listed in view definitions, but their subassemblies and parts are not. New actors resulting from document updates are hidden (inherit assembly visibility).
  • Visible assemblies are not listed in view definitions, nor are their subassemblies and parts. New actors resulting from document updates are visible.
  • Mixed-visibility assemblies are not listed in view definitions, but their hidden parts are. New actors resulting from document updates are visible.

Legend

The illustrations in the table above use these symbols:

Note: The root assembly node never displays . To determine if the root node has mixed visibility, examine its children.

Geometry

This section lets you configure geometry update.

These options apply to Geometry > Update only, not File > Update > Composer Document .

Command Name Description
Add new geometry Checks if new geometry actors have been created in the CAD file and converts them. The checks are based on CAD file names.
Delete old geometry Checks if geometry actors have been deleted in the CAD file and deletes them in the Composer file. The checks are based on CAD file names.
Modify geometry Updates all 3D geometry (not collaboration, points, and so on) no matter if changes have been made to the CAD file.
Check issued from Updates only actors from a CAD file with the same name as the update file. For example, part1.sat and part2.sat are merged in Composer. To update only actors coming from part1.sat, check this option. To consider actors from part2.sat, clear this option.
Notes:
  • This option is deprecated.
  • This option is applicable to the following formats only: ACIS, IGS, STP, VDA, and Pro/ENGINEER.
All occurrences Looks for occurrences of the same actor in the Composer file and updates all of them. To update selected actors only, clear this option.
