Creating Cones

Use the Cone command to draw a 3D solid cone with a symmetrical or offset apex. The base plane of the cone can be circular or elliptical. The ground plane of the cone lies in the XY-plane of the coordinate system. The height of the apex is related to the Z-axis of the coordinate system.

To create a cone:

  1. Click Solids > Draw > Cone (or type Cone).
  2. Set an option for the cone's base:
    • Center point base:
      1. Click in the graphics area to specify a center point or type the 3D coordinates.
      2. Click in the graphics area or type a value for radius.

        - or -

Enter the Diameter option and click in the graphics area or type a value for diameter.

    • 3-point base:
      1. Enter the 3Point option.
      2. Click in the graphics area or type values to specify the 3 points.
    • 2-point diameter base:
      1. Enter the 2Point option.
      2. Click in the graphics area or type values to specify the first and second endpoints of the diameter.
    • Tangent, tangent, radius (TTR) base:
      1. Enter the TTR option.
      2. Select a point on a circle, arc, or line for the first and second tangents.
      3. Type a value for radius.
    • Elliptical base:
      1. Enter the Elliptical option.
      2. Click in the graphics area or type values to specify the axis endpoints and the length of the other axis.

        - or -

Enter the Center option, then click in the graphics area to specify the center point, endpoint, and other axis. You can also type the 3D coordinates for the center point.

  3. Set the cone height:
    • Click in the graphics area or type a value.

      - or -

    • Enter the Apex option, then click in the graphics area or type a 3D coordinate for the apex point.
