Field Dialog Box

The Field dialog box groups the options for adding fields in text entities, BlockAttributes and table cells.

Category

Specifies the category of fields to display in the Name list, for example Date/Time, Document or Entities.

Name

Displays the fields available in the specified category.

Format

Displays the list of available formats.

The available options vary according to the specified field. For example, when you select the Lineweight property, the Format list displays the available units.

The options available in the Field dialog box options vary according to the specified field.

Name

Displays the fields available in the specified category.

Selecting Entities in the Category list, displays the following field types:

Options for BlockPlaceholder Fields

Block placeholder fields are available only in the Block Editor.

To display the options for BlockPlaceholder fields:

  1. In the Block Editor, do one of the following:
  2. In the Block Attribute Definition, click Field.
  3. In the Field dialog box, do the following:
    • In Category, select Entities.
    • In Name, select BlockPlaceholder.

Options for Entities Fields

Clicking the Specify Entity button temporarily closes the dialog box and lets you specify an entity in the graphics area.

Property

Lists the properties available as fields for the specified entity. The properties are the same as in the Properties palette.

Entity

Displays the type of the specify entity.

Additional Format

Displays the Additional Format dialog box.

Specify Entity

Closes the Field dialog box and lets you specify an entitiy in the graphics area.

Preview

Displays the value of the specified property.

Options for Formula Fields

Note: Formulas are available when inserting fields in table cells.

The specified formula calculates a value based on the values from the cells and range of cells specified in the graphics area.

The following functions are available and can be used in formulas:

  • Sum. Calculates the sum of the values from the defined cells.
  • Average. Calculates the average of the values from the defined cells.
  • Count. Counts the number of defined cells.

Clicking the corresponding button closes the dialog box and let you specify the range of cells in the graphics area. The formula updates as you specify functions and ranges of cells.

Cell

Closes the dialog box and lets you specify a cell in the graphics area. In the Preview area, the result updates.

Additional Format

Displays the Additional Format dialog box.

Evaluate

Displays the calculated value in the Preview area. If the formula returns an error, the Preview area displays "####".

Additional Format Options

In the Additional Format dialog box, you can set the following options:

Preview

Displays the current value according to the specified format.

Current value

Displays the current value

Additional text

Specifies a prefix and a suffix for the text.

Number separators

Specifies a decimal separator and the symbol used to represent numbers greater than 100.

Zero suppression

Lets you suppress leading and trailing zeros from the displayed number.

General

  • Axis. For coordinates, specifies which value to display.
  • Precision. Specifies the decimal precision: 0 to 8 decimal places (for the Decimal, Engineering, or Scientific unit type)
  • Conversion factor. Specifies the conversion factor to use on the current value. 1 means no conversion.
  • List separator. Specifies the separator for the list items.
