Opening Non-Native Assemblies with Reference Files Located in Different Folders

You can open non-native assemblies whose reference component files are stored in folders that are not in the same folder tree as the assembly files.

The referenced files are located in different folder other than the root folder and its subfolders. You can specify other folders that contain the referenced files to the main folder tree to search for referenced files to resolve assembly components. Supported file formats are Autodesk® Inventor, Pro/E, Solid Edge®, and UG-NX.

To open non-native assemblies with reference files located in different folders:

  1. Click Tools > Options > System Options > File Locations.
  2. In Show folders for, select Referenced Documents.
  3. Click Add.
  4. In the Select Folder dialog box, navigate to the location where the referenced files are located and click Select Folder.
SOLIDWORKS adds the folder paths containing the reference files under Folders.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to add component paths from different locations.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Open the assembly.
    All assembly components are resolved.
