Creating a New File in SOLIDWORKS Connected

In this lesson, you create a part and save it to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform using commands from MySession.

To create a new file in SOLIDWORKS Connected:

  1. Open SOLIDWORKS Connected by clicking the desktop shortcut.

If you do not have the desktop shortcut, in the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, click the Compass in the top bar of the 3DDashboard. Then under Me, expand SOLIDWORKS Connected to create the desktop shortcut.

When SOLIDWORKS Connected opens, the Common Space appears in the title bar next to your initials.

  2. In the Task Pane, click the Compass to show MySession.
  3. Optional: In the action bar, at the bottom of MySession, right-click, and select Show Labels.

  4. Create a new part document by clicking File > New.
  5. Hover over the Status in MySession.

The tooltip identifies the part as new.

  6. Model a simple part in the graphics area.
  7. Right-click the part in MySession and click Save with Options.

Save with Options saves the part to the Common Space on the platform.

  8. In the Save as New dialog box, enter a Title for the part and click OK.
If the part name is not unique, SOLIDWORKS Connected cannot save the file to the platform. To apply a unique title to the part, right-click the part name in the FeatureManager design tree and click Rename Title. After entering a title, right-click the part in MySession and click Save again.
  9. In the Save to 3DEXPERIENCE dialog box, click Save.
The options include adding a bookmark, creating a new revision, or exporting the file.

SOLIDWORKS Connected saves the part on the platform.
