Using the Sheet Set Manager

Use the SheetSet command to display the Sheet Set Manager palette.

The Sheet Set Manager palette groups the functionalities for creating, organizing, and managing drawing sheets within a drawing sheet set.

  • Browse the sheets from the selected drawing sheet set
  • Renumber the sheets from a drawing sheet set or subset
  • Rename an existing sheet or a drawing sheet set
  • Remove sheets from the drawing sheet set or subset
  • Create new drawing sheet sets
  • Add and remove subsets
  • Rearrange sheets and subsets
  • Open sheets for editing or read-only (Open a drawing with the selected sheet active)
  • Modify the properties of each sheet set, subset, or sheet.
  • Place Model Views on sheets and manage sheet views
  • Publish the sheets from a drawing sheet set

You can organize your drawing sheets using the options provided in the context menu. The available options vary according to the item that you selected in the tree view.

To display the Sheet Set Manager palette:

  • Do one of the following:
    • Right-click the ribbon and select Sheet Set Manager from the context menu
    • Type SheetSet.
    • Press Ctrl + 4.

To hide the Sheet Set Manager:

  • Type HideSheetSet at the command prompt.

Sheet Set Manager Palette

The palette contains the following tabs:

  • Drawing Sheet List. Displays the list of drawing sheets from the specified drawing sheet set as a tree view. Each sheet in a drawing sheet set is a specified sheet in a drawing file.
  • Sheet Views. Displays a list of model views used in the current drawing sheet set.
  • Model Views. Displays a list of folders, drawing files, and model views available for the current drawing sheet set.

You can do the following:

  • Right-click an item in the tree view displays a context menu.
  • Double-clicking drawings, sheets, or model views displays them in the graphics area.
  • Clicking an item displays a thumbnail preview in the Preview area.

Toolbar

The toolbar on the top of the palette provides quick access for the most frequently used tools for the curently selected tab.

Button
 Function
Displays the Drawing Sheet Set Creation wizard.
Opens the dialog box for drawing sheet set selection.
Shows or hides the Details area.
Shows or hides the Preview area.
Refreshes the drawing sheet list. The update process checks the folder locations available for the current drawing sheet set, if any. Additionally, it checks the drawing files for new or removed model views.
Displays the last opened .dst files with path. Selecting a file displays the list of drawing sheets and subsets.
Displays the options for organizing the sheet views:
  • View by Class
  • View by Drawing Sheet
This options are available for Sheet Views only.
Opens the dialog box for view class creation. This option is available only when the views are displayed according to their view class.
Displays the publishing options.
This option is available for Drawing Sheet List only.
Opens the dialog box for folder selection.
This option is available for Model Views only.
Displays the Drawing Sheet Selection flyout with tools for working with named drawing sheet selections:
  • Manage. Displays a dialog box with the list of named drawing sheet selections that you have created.
  • Create. Lets you create a new named drawing sheet selection.
Additionally, the flyout lists all named drawing sheet selection that you create.
This option is available for Drawing Sheet List only.
Drawing sheet set selection drop-down list Lists the drawing sheet sets that you opened. The Drawing Sheet List tab displays the list of drawing sheets and subsets from the selected drawing sheet set.
Note: Modifying the drawing sheet set properties locks the .dst file for other users. A lock symbol () appears next to the drawing sheet set names.

Details

The Details area displays descriptive information about the currently selected item in the tree view.

Preview

The Preview area displays a thumbnail preview of the currently selected item in the tree view.

Use Toggle preview to display or hide the Preview panel.

Drawing Sheet List Tab

The Drawing Sheet List tab of the Sheet Set Manager displays the list of drawing sheets from the specified drawing sheet set. Each drawing sheet from the drawing sheet set is a specified sheet in a drawing file. The sheet names displayed in the Drawing Sheet List are similar to links to the corresponding sheets. Thus, drawing sheet sets let you quickly access the sheets from the specified drawing files.

  • Double-clicking the drawing sheet name opens a drawing with the selected sheet active.

    The drawing that contains the sheet is locked for other users. A lock symbol () appears on the drawing sheet icon.

  • Clicking one or more items selects them for opening or publishing. Use Shift + Arrow or Ctrl + Click keys or for multiple selection.

    You can save selected drawing sheets in so called named drawing sheet selections.

  • Drag-and-drop drawing sheets to organize them within the drawing sheet list.
  • Right-clicking an item in the Drawing Sheet List displays a context menu.
Symbol
 Meaning
Drawing sheet available for editing.
Locked drawing sheet. You can open the drawing in read-only mode.
According to the situation, the symbol has one of the following meanings:
  • The path and the name of the folder for storing all new .dwg files containing sheets that you add to the subset does not exists
  • At least one drawing sheet is missing from the subset
  • The drawing file is missing. You can remove the drawing sheet from the drawing sheet set.
Not included for printing.
Details Area

The Details area displays descriptive information of the currently selected item in the drawing sheet set list.

Preview Area

The Preview area displays a thumbnail preview of the currently selected item in the drawing sheet set list.

Drawing Sheet List Context Menu

Right-clicking an item in the Drawing Sheet List provides a context menu. You can use the context menu to create new drawing sheets, new subsets, and to publish a drawing sheet set. The displayed options vary according to the selected item.

Expand All Expands all subsets from the drawing sheet set
Collapse All Collapses all subsets from the drawing sheet set
Close Drawing Sheet Set Closes the current drawing sheet set.
Resave All Drawing Sheets Saves all sheets from the drawing sheet set and connects each drawing file with the drawing sheet set.

New Drawing Sheet Displays the New Drawing Sheet dialog box that lets you create a drawing sheet in the specified drawing sheet set or subset
New Subset Displays the Subset Properties dialog box that lets you create a subset in the specified subset
Import Sheet Displays the Import Sheet as Drawing Sheet dialog box that lets you specify drawings from which you can import sheets.
Rename Subset Displays the Subset Properties dialog box
Remove Subset Removes the currently selected subset from the drawing sheet set
Publish Displays the available publishing options
Properties Displays the properties of the selected drawing sheet, drawing sheet set, or subset
Insert Drawing Sheet List Table Displays the Drawing Sheet List Table dialog box
Options for working with drawing sheets

Open Opens a drawing with the selected sheet active
Open Read-Only Opens a drawing with the selected sheet active in view-only mode
Rename & Renumber Displays the Rename & Renumber dialog box. You can adjust the sheet's number and title.
Save Drawing Sheet Selection Displays the New Drawing Sheet Selection dialog box. You can specify the name of the drawing sheet selection.
Remove Drawing Sheet Removes the currently selected drawing sheets from the drawing sheet set
Insert Drawing Sheet List Table Displays the Drawing Sheet List Table dialog box
Pack and Go Creates a package from the specified drawing sheet
Publishing options
Option
 Function
Publish to PDF Publishes in background the specified drawing sheet set to PDF files.
Publish to DWF Publishes in background the specified drawing sheet set to DWF files.
Publish to DWFx Publishes in background the specified drawing sheet set to DWFx files.
Publish to Printer Publishes in background the specified drawing sheet set to printers.
Publishing Using Page Layout Override Publishes the specified sheets using the selected page layout override rather than the page layout specified in each drawing.
Publishing Using Print Configuration Override Publishes the specified sheets using the selected Print Configuration override rather than the Print Configuration specified in each drawing.
Publishing Using Print Configuration Override Publishes the specified sheets using the selected Print Configuration override rather than the Print Configuration specified in each drawing.
Subset and Drawing Sheet Publish Settings Displays the Publish Drawing Sheets dialog box
Publish in Reverse Order Publishes the sheets from the drawing sheet set in reverse order
Add Print Stamp Includes a print stamp when printing drawing sheets
Print Stamp Options Starts the PrintStamp command.
Manage Page Layouts Displays the Page Layout Manager dialog box
Manage Print Configurations Displays the Print Configuration Manager dialog box
Manage Print Configurations Displays the Print Configuration Manager dialog box
Publish Drawing Sheets in Subset Displays the available publishing options
PDF Publish Options Displays the PDF Publish Options dialog box
Batch Print Displays the Batch Print dialog box

Sheet Views Tab

The Sheet Views tab of the Sheet Set Manager displays a list of views used in the current drawing sheet set. You can organize views in view classes. You can display the list of views by view classes or by the drawing sheet on which they are placed.

Sheet View List Context Menu

Right-clicking an item in the Sheet Views tab displays a context menu with options varying according to the item that you selected in the tree view.

New View Class Displays the View Class dialog box. This option is available only when the sheet views are displayed according to their view class (View by Class option).
Properties Displays the Drawing Sheet Set Properties dialog box

Open Opens the drawing file for editing, with the selected sheet active
Open Read-Only Opens the drawing file in read-only mode, with the selected sheet active
Options for working with sheet views
Option
 Function
Display Zooms to the specified view on the sheet on which it was created. Opens the drawing file containing the sheet, if the drawing file is not already open.
Rename & Renumber Displays the Rename and Renumber View dialog box which lets you renumber the selected sheet view and modify its title.
Set Class Assigns the selected sheet view to a specified class. This option is available only when the sheet views are displayed according to their view class (View by Class option).
Place Callout Block Specifies and places a callout block onto a sheet.
Place View Label Block Specifies and places a view label block onto a sheet.

Model Views Tab

The Model Views tab of the Sheet Set Manager displays a tree view of folder locations that are available for the current drawing sheet set. Expanding a folder location node displays all folders and drawings in that location. Expanding a drawing node displays the model views from that drawing.

You can add content to your drawings by dragging drawings from the Model Views tab onto your sheet.

  • Double-clicking the drawing name opens the drawing in the graphics area.
  • Right-clicking an item in the Model Views list displays a context menu.
  • Dragging a drawing from the Model Views tab onto your sheet attaches the drawing to the sheet as an external reference drawing.

To attach a drawing as an external reference:

  1. In the Sheet Set Manager palette, open a drawing sheet set.
  2. On the Drawing Sheet List tab, open a drawing sheet to which you want to add content.
  3. Click the Model Views tab.
  4. On the Model Views tab, navigate to the drawing file to attach as external reference.
  5. Select a drawing or a model view within the drawing and drag it onto the sheet.
  6. Right-click and specify an appropriate scale from the list.
  7. In the graphics area, specify the insertion point.

Model View List Context Menu

Right-clicking an item in the Model Views tab displays a context menu with options for adding and removing folder locations to the current drawing sheet set. The available options vary according to the item that you selected in the tree view.

Expand Expands the currently selected folder location and displays the drawings.
Add New Location Lets you add a folder location to the current drawing sheet set.
Remove Location Removes the currently selected folder location from the current drawing sheet set.
Options for working with drawings from folder locations

 Function
Open Opens the specified drawing file.
Open Read-Only Opens the specified drawing file in read-only mode.
Place On Sheet Lets you place a view on the current sheet.
