Modifying the 2D Footprint Properties

You can modify the data associated with the 2D footprint.

  1. Click 2D Footprints management > New or 2D Footprints management > Properties .
    The 2D footprint properties dialog box opens.
    If you have selected several 2D footprints, only the common properties are displayed.
  2. Review and edit the options.
    General Options Description
    Title When you create a 2D footprint, a title is provided automatically. You can edit this title but it must be unique.
    Description Enter a description. When in Thumbnail mode, the description appears under the thumbnail. 2D footprints are in alphabetical order by description. The description is available in all languages by clicking the specific icon.
    Class Click ... to select the 2D footprint class.
    Symbol type You can only select a Cabinet layout footprint. 2D cabinet layouts cannot use another type of symbol.
    Unit system Select the unit mode where you created the 2D footprint. When you create a new 2D footprint, it uses the corresponding unit system template.
    Library Select the library to classify the 2D footprint.
    Manufacturer Part Options Description
    Manufacturer Select the name of the manufacturer. You cannot disassociate this Reference parameter.
    Reference Associates a manufacturer part with the symbol. When defined, this manufacturer part is automatically associated with the component. Click ... to assign a manufacturer part. For more information, see Assigning Manufacturer Parts.
    The Systems section is read-only. It shows the creation or modification date, and the creator.
    Characteristics Options Description
    Root mark Enter the root mark to use when inserting the symbol. If you do not enter a value, SOLIDWORKS Electrical uses the root associated with the class. For more information, see Class Properties.
    Associated macro

    Associates a macro with the symbol. When inserting a symbol, you can select Insert associated macro in the dockable panel or the Pages tab in the component context menu. Click ... to associate a macro and assign a manufacturer part.

    Standard The standard used for the symbol.
    Cross references type Select the default cross references level for the 2D footprint. You can change it when you insert the 2D footprint.
    Options Description
    Display connection points When you select this option, the connection points appear in the scheme.
    Keep attributes orientation

    When you select this option, the attributes do not rotate with the 2D footprint.
